Accountants for Doctors in Cardiff

Wales sits in an unusual position for this work. The NHS pension scheme is the same one that covers England, administered by NHS Business Services Authority, so the annual allowance and certificate arithmetic is identical.
The general practice contract, though, is a Welsh one, and Primary Care Support England covers England only. So the scheme is shared and the route through it is not.
The Shared Scheme and the Welsh Contract
Practices in Cardiff, Newport, Bridgend and Pontypridd work to contract terms agreed in Wales, which affects what income arrives and under what heading. Once it is in the accounts, the pension treatment follows the England and Wales scheme rules unchanged.
That means guidance written for English practices is usually right on pension mechanics and often wrong on contract income. Read it with that split in mind, and check which of the two any given page is actually describing.
Cardiff Locums and Private Work
For locums and for consultants with private lists, the tax position in Wales is the same as in England: income tax rates currently match, the Self Assessment deadlines are UK-wide, and Making Tax Digital started on 6 April 2026 on the same thresholds.
So the practical questions here are the ordinary ones, covered in our locum accounts and private practice pages, rather than anything specific to the border.
